Nigel has fulfilled a variety of roles throughout his career from Site Engineer to Project Manager. The last 25 years have been in the management of planning and project controls.
After working on numerous high-profile projects, including the World Student Games Venues (1991), Channel Tunnel Rail Link and Terminal 5, Nigel set up Project Dynamics Limited to focus on the development, implementation and operation of project controls on major projects.
Since setting up the company, Nigel has worked on projects varying in value from as little as £2m to £billions, more recently his focus has been on projects more than £100m.
Many of these have benefited from the incorporation of lean principles at either their design, procurement, or assembly stages as he actively promotes and encourages the adoption of lean principles. His client list includes many of the “Blue-Chip” companies of the construction industry.
Nigel was part of the APM Refresh team for reviewing the Schedule Management and Resource Management sections for the APM Body of Knowledge (6th Edition) in 2013.
In January 2015, Nigel undertook to become a BIM Accredited Professional through the BRE Academy and attained BIM Level 2 status in March 2015.
David is a Chartered Construction Manager, an Arbitrator, Mediator and an Expert Witness, with over 35 years’ experience of capital projects. His project portfolio spans three continents and includes numerous landmark projects, including Terminals 2 and 5 at Heathrow Airport, Terminal 3/C2 at Dubai Airport, Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, the Ascot Grandstand, Citibank Tower in Canary Wharf and the Crossrail Project.
He has managed head-office departments for multi-national contractors in planning, project controls and technical disciplines in the UK and the Middle East.
David commenced his career as an apprentice bricklayer and progressed through the industry in a variety of roles. Coming from a trade background - traditionally driven by “piecework” – he is fully conversant in the importance and the factors of production, the reliance on consistency and creating win-win scenarios.
He commenced his professional career in temporary works design, later moving on to planning and resource management on roads and bridges projects, before widening his experience with a civil engineering and marine works contractor and also gaining several years estimating experience.
David then held several lead positions in both estimating and planning roles, before taking responsibility for the planning function at London’s Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 Project for the newly merged Laing O’Rourke Ltd.
Whilst working at Heathrow Airport on the Terminal 5 programme, David was introduced to lean principles (including last planner techniques) and was tasked with the implementation of lean across the delivery teams. This experience, together with David’s intimate knowledge of planning and production, has fuelled his passion for lean and a desire to bring added value for clients into his projects.
More recently, David has managed teams dealing with claims, both for contractors and consultant teams and has put his recent construction law qualifications to good use in advising parties on non-adversarial settlement of disputes on live projects.
