Heathrow Airport – Terminal 3 Transformation

Strategic planning & project controls role to integrate Primavera P6 across the 18 Projects that made up the Heathrow Airport Terminal 3 (T3) programme of works.

The projects were in varying stages from Concept to Assembly, Operational Readiness and Integration. Work involved standardising workstreams up to Start on Site and integrating them into an enterprise environment (previously each project was stand alone in Microsoft Project).

Aug 2009 - PDL appointed to provide Project Controls Management services for Carillion Building on the second satellite building at Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 (T5C)

 

Heathrow Airport – Terminal 5C

Valued at approximately £350m, the opening of Terminal 5 Concourse C (T5C) marked the next phase of expansion at Europe’s busiest airport, London Heathrow.

The new terminal building comprises 12 pier-served stands with the provision to extend to 14 stands in the future. On eight of the 12 stands, T5C also has the capability to service the planned inclusion of the world’s largest commercial airliner – the Airbus A380 – in the British Airways fleet.

As the Complex Building Integrator (CBI), Carillion’s role was to not just to construct T5C, but to manage the interfaces and report progress across all the suppliers involved on T5C.

During the fit-out, commissioning and handover of T5C, Our responsibility was for the augmentation, management and reporting all Project Controls functions on T5C to their client, BAA.

We also played an integral role in assisting in the continued improvement of Carillion’s Earned Value Analysis (EVA) and Earned Value Management (EVM) systems and processes.

 

Aquatics Venues – London Olympic Park

June 2009 - PDL provide Planning & Logistics support for a tender to supply temporary pools for Aquatic Event Venues via a strategic alliance with Thomas Winter Associates (TWA)

 

Olympic Park – Aquatics Venues

For the Olympic Games to be staged in London in 2012, the competitors for the multitude of aquatics events require two state-of-the-art competition and training facilities to be constructed and maintained throughout the period of The Games. The Olympic Park training at Eton Manor and the Water Polo competition venues comprise seven swimming pools spread over the two venues.

Our commission, through our strategic alliance with Thomas Winter Associates (TWA), was to provide tender planning and logistics management services for Fluidra’s bid for the aquatics venues. The tender submission was to design, construct, operate, maintain and ultimately de-commission and demolish the competition and training facilities for the aquatics events on conclusion of The Games.

Olympic Park Design Integration Secondment

May 2009 - Nigel Fowler is seconded to CLM to aid integration of the infrastructure design milestones into the master schedule

 

M50 Motorway Upgrade Scheme, Dublin, Ireland

PDL has been appointed to assist in the development of documentation for arbitration for Phase One of the M50 upgrade in Dublin.

M50 Upgrade Phase 1 – N4 to N7

SIAC-Ferrovial Joint Venture was the Design & Build Contractor for the 8km M50 Upgrade Phase 1 Contract. This phase of the motorway upgrade saw the 5 km section from the N7 to the N4 increase from four to six lanes with new free-flowing interchanges at the Red Cow (N7), Liffey Valley (N4) and Ballymount junctions. The project was originally valued at approximately £220m (May 2009 exchange rates) and was completed in mid-2008.

Project Dynamics was engaged via our strategic alliance with Thomas Winter Associates (TWA) to assist the SIAC-Ferrovial Joint Venture in their arbitration case with the Irish National Roads Authority (NRA).

Our role was to provide forensic planning support to help substantiate their claims for extension of time and acceleration.
